Yoga & Sound Healing

with Jim Stockton & Nyree Young
Saturday, October 28, 4–6pm | $25

This collaboration will explore how tone, shifting sounds and rhythm can enhance our awareness of the vibrational quality of subtle energies. The workshop will use the themes of Air and Space – focusing on the throat as a key transition between the heart and the head. Beginning with a restorative practice, appropriate for beginners, we will invite the Sound Bath to carry us into a more active sequence in the second half.

Jim Stockton has been teaching yoga in the SF Bay Area, in a number of therapeutic or clinical settings, since the end of the 1990s. In 2003, he graduated from the The Yoga Room’s Advanced Studies Program. Since then, he has worked within and outside of the Iyengar community, primarily with Mary Lou Weprin and Michael Lucy; but also attending extensive retreats with Tias Little, Sarah Powers, and Dharmanidhi Saraswati; and further study within Zen, Vajrayana, and Vipassana meditation traditions. Most recently, Jim’s work has focused on Trauma recovery—both in a San Francisco mental health clinic (Dept of Public Health); working with Vets and PTSD; and observing Japanese yoga teachers work with the trauma sufferers immediately following the Fukushima tsunami/nuclear accident.

Nyree Young is a Florida native who began her artistic journey through various musical collaborations 15 years ago.  She plays acoustic guitar, djembe, and a few other percussive instruments. She is also a singer-songwriter. She values creating space for all of us to connect back to ourselves, nature and to each other.
