In this Building Strength for Facing Trying Times Series, we will investigate how we can use our asana practice to cultivate the strength, stability, and fortitude that we need when facing difficult periods in our lives or in the world around us. How do the different categories of asanas we practice contribute to cultivating the different qualities that assist us when times are hard: the ability to bear up physically under pressure, mental fortitude, emotional resilience, a steadiness of spirit?
Michael Lucey discovered Iyengar yoga in 1982. From his very first class, he has been fascinated by the many ways yoga can transform your relation to your body, mind, and breath. He completed the Yoga Room Advanced Studies Program in 1993. A Senior Intermediate I certified Iyengar yoga teacher, Michael has travelled to Pune to study with the Iyengar family on nine occasions. Michael is also a professor of Comparative Literature and French at the University of California, Berkeley, and is serving as President of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States from November 2014 to April 2017.
