On the occasion of BKS Iyengar’s 100th birthday, in December 2018, his daughter, son, and granddaughter (Geeta, Prashant, and Abhijata) led 10 days of teaching and two days of celebration in Pune, India for Iyengar Yoga practitioners from around the world. In this workshop, Michael will offer insights into the core features of Iyengar Yoga based on his experience at the centenary events. The workshop will cover both asana and pranayama.
Michael Lucey is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher at the Senior Intermediate 1 level. He began his study of yoga in 1982. From his very first class he has been fascinated by the many ways yoga can transform your relation to your body, mind, and breath. Michael completed the Advanced Studies Program at The Yoga Room in 1993. He continues his own training with senior Iyengar teachers across the country. He also studies regularly in Pune with the Iyengar family; his December 2018 trip to Pune was his 11th. Michael served as President of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States from 2014-2017. He is also a professor of Comparative Literature and French at UC Berkeley.
