with Bridget Frederick & Sandy Zirulnik
Sunday, July 14th | 1:30-3:30pm
Add a little hang-time to your Yoga practice! The Yoga Ropes wall was pioneered by BKS Iyengar, who used the ropes as a prop to support and intensify his asana practice. The support of the ropes wall can bring a fresh perspective and understanding of the asanas, playing with gravity and the way our bodies can exist within it at different angles than we are used to. Gentle, playful, sometimes challenging, always fun — during this workshop we will learn technique, poses, and positions, and develop strength and confidence. No prior Ropes Wall experience is necessary. Space is limited on the ropes wall, so please sign up in advance!
Bridget Frederick has worked with students of all ages, body types and abilities. Individual attention, a strong focus on alignment and core strength, and her adept use of props allow for a comfortable experience, making yoga accessible to anyone who is interested in finding the relief, strength or stillness that it can offer. She began studying yoga in 2002 after a car accident that made a mild chronic back problem unbearable. She found relief at the Yoga Room with the Iyengar-style focus, and she’s been a teacher there since 2010. Regular clinics, intensives and workshops keep her learning about bodies continuously – her interest in aerial arts led to an exploration of yoga wall ropes.
Sandy Zirulnik’s yoga classes explore structure, movement, strength, and balance through the practice of asanas, breathing awareness, and the study of anatomy. They are enjoyable and appropriate for students of all ages and interests. No experience or special level of flexibility is required. Sandy began studying Yoga in 1998 and graduated from The Yoga Room’s Advanced Studies Program. His teachers include Ada Lusardi, Donald Moyer, the faculty of The Yoga Room, Jonothon Gross, Sandra Razieli, and Laura Camp. Often he can be seen riding his bicycle in the Berkeley hills or more distant places.
