with Gay White
Saturday, June 15th | 1-4pm
During this afternoon we will warm up and together explore structured sequences of asanas. These movement phrases and dances are based on the ancient art of Hatha yoga for a creative form that draws upon varying disciplines such as Tai Chi, and modern dance as well as yoga. The theatrical productions have received critical acclaim both for the focus and strength of the dancers, and the sculptural elegance and lighthearted humor of the choreography. This will be the basic groundwork and fundamentals. No dance experience is necessary.
Gay White studied dance composition and improvisation at Naropa Institute in the 1970s and choreography in the 1980s and has been making dances since 1975. She began teaching yoga and an innovative blend of dance and yoga, Yoga Movement in 1989. After studying at the Yoga Room in Berkeley for many years, she is now the Director of the studio and co-director with Mary Lou Weprin of the Yoga Room Advanced Studies Program– a 500-hour program training teachers. Gay founded the Yoga Garden Dancers, a group of dancers and yogis who perform her choreography. She created ten evening-length works of original dance with original musical scores.
